13 and 14 October 2017 on the University of Missouri campus, Columbia

The MU Limnologists are hosting a regional Great Plains Limnology Conference at the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO on October 13 and 14th. There will be a social mixer on Friday night starting at 6:30 pm at Shakespeare’s Pizza South (see location in the map below). The official program will kick off on Saturday morning at 8 am in Room 123 of the Anheuser-Busch Natural Resources building and will end just after 4 pm. We are expecting over 80 people to attend with a lightning introduction round of 12 new PIs, 13 oral presentations, and 18 poster presentations.

We are excited to announce that we will have a plenary talk on the Saturday morning by Dr. John Downing, Director of the Sea Grant College Program and a professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Dr. Downing holds a B.S. in Biology from Hamline University, an M.S. in Zoology from North Dakota State University, and a Ph.D. in Biology from McGill University. Dr. Downing was previously Regent's Excellence Professor of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology and Chair of the Environmental Science Graduate Program at Iowa State University. He is the former Chair of the Executive Board of the Council of Scientific Society Presidents and former President of the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography. Reflected in over >175 academic publications (H-index 65, i10 index 123, 20,000+ citations), his areas of expertise range from aquatic ecology and fisheries biology to whole ecosystem management, resource economics, and global carbon cycling. His plenary talk will be entitled “The global importance of Great Plains limnology”.

The Center for Watershed Management and Water Quality in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at the University of Missouri (http://snr.missouri.edu/waterquality/about.php) is sponsoring this event. Registration costs will be $25/person. Registration fees can be paid by check or cash in person at the conference.
